Curtis, Associate Naval Architect
Background
I started my fulltime career with McDermott after graduating from Texas A&M University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Ocean Engineering. I was fortunate enough to land an internship with McDermott the summer before my senior year, and was offered a full time position upon graduation.

I decided to join McDermott because of its reputation as a leader in the offshore EPCI industry. My experience during my internship showed me that McDermott is committed to developing its people and creating a work environment where they can succeed. I saw first-hand how talented and driven employees are here, and jumped at the opportunity to work alongside them.

Highlights
My favorite part of working at McDermott is the team atmosphere that exists. I always know there is someone I can go to with a question who is willing to help me out and share knowledge and experience. For a recent college graduate like me just starting a career, that is a great resource to have. Another exciting part of working here is the opportunity to work on projects all around the world in a variety of different environments.

I am currently working on my second project since being hired full time a platform installation in the Mexican Gulf of Mexico. I am in charge of doing the analysis for transporting both the jacket and topside from our fabrication yard in Altamira, Mexico, to the installation site. This responsibility will present a challenge for me, and a great opportunity to learn and develop my skills early on in my career. It is very rewarding and satisfying to be given a chance to contribute right away.

Advice
Take the initiative whenever possible because the best way to learn is by doing. Ask questions when you are unclear, as there is always someone willing to help. Be adaptable; we work on projects where variables are constantly changing, so it's important to be able to adjust and still deliver a quality product.
