Erin, Equipment and Machinery Engineer
Background
I graduated from Lamar University in 2011 with a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering. The reason I chose this major was because I really enjoyed the math and science, and out of all the engineering fields, mechanical systems were the most interesting to me.

I originally applied at McDermott because I had heard great things about the company from a relative who works there. After interviewing I decided I would like to work for McDermott because of the many opportunities the company has to offer.

Highlights
The things I like about working for McDermott are the environment of the department(subsea) I work in, the outside and inside training I have received already after only working here for two months, and how approachable and helpful the experienced Engineers are when I have needed help.

The most interesting thing I have worked on so far is a pipe-in-pipe design that has involved using Abaqus, a finite element analysis and computer-aided engineering program; this is exciting and interesting because computer-aided engineering was my favorite part of my college studies and Abaqus is similar to what I used in college, but with a better interface that enables engineering analysis without using any other programs. I have already taken a week-long external Abaqus course and have received in-house training and mentoring on the program here at work from a very experienced user.

Advice
I would definitely recommend accepting employment opportunities at McDermott. The people you work with are great and the training you receive is much better than I have seen many people I graduated with receive at other companies.
